💜 Emotional Day to Share
It’s the call no Mom ever wants to get. Let alone getting it when you have a child with a seizure disorder.
The phone rings around 10:30 am, and it’s the school nurse explaining Malia is having one of her new types of seizures (type number 6). Malia was aware enough to swipe her magnet and utilize her VNS! Then, the teacher swiped it 2,3,4..? times. She did this with no knowledge (so it seems) of what to do with it. - Even though the entire school has been prepped.
The school nurse swiped her again, and this was sufficient, though for me to call it 3 times (our max number of swipes in this stage of ramp-up for her VNS). The seizure was not stopping, so then it came down to, what do we do now? The call was made to administer Malia’s emergency meds and call 911.
The entire school was sent into lockdown so that the emergency vehicles could get to Malia as quickly as possible and to give her some privacy from other students who may have otherwise been walking around.
We got Malia onto the stretcher and taken to the hospital, where her breathing and pulse ox were monitored for allergic reaction for some time.
Everything ended well, but quite a day emotionally and physically.
